Travellers move caravans on to village recreation ground - Surrey

From the Surrey Mirror

Travellers who have moved on to Hooley Recreation Ground have until Monday morning to leave.

Almost 20 caravans arrived on the village recreation ground off Brighton Road on Wednesday

Surrey Police and Reigate and Banstead Borough Council have been involved and the travellers have been given a deadline of 9am on Monday by which to go.

Keith Foreman, borough councillor for Chipstead, Hooley and Woodmansterne, said: "The recreation ground is unuseable.

"It is obviously a concern to the local residents of Hooley and its certainly something they could do without."

Council spokeswoman Claire Lapping said: "On Thursday the council served a ‘Notice to Quit’ on the 18 caravans currently occupying Hooley Recreation Ground.

"The Notice to Quit instructs that they must leave the site by 9am, Monday July 8, or the council will arrange an eviction order through the courts.”
