Police take action to remove Travellers - Essex

From Everything Harlow

POLICE have served a notice on Travellers who have moved onto land in Harlow giving them until noon tomorrow to leave.
Seven caravans and 13 vehicles moved on to council land next to Netteswell Plantation, off Second Avenue - where the town's helipad is located - this afternoon.

A Harlow Council spokesman said Essex Police have served a section 61 notice for the Travellers to leave by noon tomorrow.
Youth and citizenship portfolio holder Emma Toal said: "The council is working closely with the police in accordance with established protocols and it is in contact with the Travellers.

"Residents expect us to protect the town's green spaces and uphold the law and that is what we will do. We hope to resolve this issue as soon as possible. By working with the police and using the powers they have we hope we can avoid having to apply to the High Court to take formal legal action."
